Jack's pre-school

Laura and I recently had the opportunity to watch Jack's pre-school class rehearse for the end-of-semester graduation program. Workplace warning: includes video w/sound.

Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
It's interesting to me how young kids these days are exposed to a curriculum. Pre-schools today teach what I once learned in kindergarten and the first grade. This spring, Jack went to Grace Baptist Church in nearby Evans, Georgia, two days a week.

We've found that church pre-schools offer the most professional, safest, and cleanest day care facilities with the best staff, and at great prices as well. The churches really take these programs seriously. We were really impressed with the teachers' enthusiasm and patience with the kids at Grace Baptist.

For Jack's end-of-semester program, the class will recite the pledge of allegiance, as well as sing and dance to several songs. Unfortunately, we will be on vacation during the actual ceremony, so Laura arranged for us to watch the rehearsal instead. Here's a video of some of the best parts!

You'll note that Jack resembles his Uncle Jim not only in appearance, but with other characteristics as well:
  • He's the class entertainer
  • He arbitrarily tries to pick a fight with another student
  • He subtly ingratiates himself with the teacher
Jack even got a graduation certificate suitable for framing!

We'll have to wait until he's old enough to be assigned homework before we learn how much he favors his father.

No argument here! Actually, that's one trait I hope that he doesn't inherit from me...

(as I post this, trying to finish a 5-7 page paper due tommorrow before leaving on our Mexico trip in the morning!)

It's certainly genetic. I turned in my thesis the night before my Mexico trip. Remember years ago Dad working on his book manuscript the night before we left on summer vacation...

Cook and I don't think the 'ingratiating with the teacher' is so subtle.

Ha! Jack got high praise for his politeness and willingness to help (esp. with opening and closing doors).
